You've got what stuck in your tyre?

You've got what stuck in your tyre?
27th July 2009

What have a stiletto heel, a gold tooth and a hedgehog got in common? They all feature in a list of bizarre objects found in motorists’ balding tyres over the past year.

The remarkable catalogue of items discovered by garage mechanics also includes an engagement ring, false fingernails and chopsticks.

The list has been published by a leading online tyre retailer, to remind drivers of the importance of checking their tyres for areas of baldness.

Garages deal with thousands of motorists each day, but some jobs can really catch your eye - one mechanic actually found a puncture caused by hedgehog spikes.

There’s lots of debris on the roads so it’s important that drivers look after their tyres correctly. Most people wouldn’t think twice about driving over a shoe or a pen, but this list goes to show that anything can burst a tyre if it hits even the smallest area of baldness.

Tyre wear can occur on almost any part of the tyre and if an object – even a reasonably blunt one – hits an area of weakness, it can do a lot of damage, so drivers should save themselves time and expense by checking their tyres at least once a month.
